Four things

Dear ,

Four things.

President-elect Obama has big plans to work with Congress to repower, refuel and rebuild America.

But first, there are four decisions the President-elect can make on day one of his administration, independently of Congress, that will enable us to start 2009 with a 'clean slate' of energy policies. These policies will move us beyond the Bush Administrationto have an immediate impact on cutting global warming pollution and spurring a clean energy economy.

Urge President-elect Obama to Enact the Clean Slate Energy Agenda

We’re calling these four The Clean Slate Energy Agendaand we need your help to make these four issues a priority for President-Elect Obama.

Can you contact President-elect Obama today and ask him to adopt the Clean Slate Energy Agenda?

President-elect Obama has asked all of us to engage in governing this country and now is our opportunity to answer his call. Right now, his team is hard at work drafting a plan to invest in clean energy and slash global warming pollution -- likely to be rolled out as soon as February.

Obama can jumpstart a clean energy economy and start reducing global warming pollution immediately by doing the following:

  1. He can end the rush to build new coal plants by directing his EPA to require all new power plants to limit their global warming emissions.
  2. He can direct his EPA to approve plans by 18 states to require clean cars.
  3. He can direct his EPA to end mountaintop removal mining by stopping coal companies from dumping rock and waste into valleys and streams.
  4. He can restore America’s international leadership in the fight to end global warming by publicly committing the US to cut its CO2 emissions at least 35% by 2020.

These are issues we have all been working hard on for years, but have been repeatedly blocked by the Bush Administration.

And the coal industry is trying to block progress as well.

They are rushing to get states to approve construction on more than 100 proposed coal-fired power plants before Obama implements a clean energy agenda.  These plants would add more than 488 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, the equivalent of adding nearly 100 million cars to the US highways, and eliminate any meaningful market share for clean energy investment.

President-elect Obama can make our clean energy future a reality, by making these executive decisions in one day with the stroke of a pen. Please, tell President-elect Obama to make these four requests a priority.

Thanks for all that you do to protect the environment.
